Sharon Draper’s Writing

Here are some decisions that I enjoyed that the author, Sharon Draper, made. She wrote “Out of My Mind” and I was entertained when reading the book. I loved how Sharon hooked me in as a reader. It’s like I’m on page one and next thing I know I’m on page thirty. On chapter 6, it talks about Mrs.V teaching her how to talk without talking (pointing to words). “Piles and piles of words I learned to read.” She also was humorous! It says on page 32, “One year he pinned a diaper on the back and another on the front of the bottom third of the snowman.” Sharon Draper was very descriptive and made a picture in my head. She uses a ton of imagery. “When people see me, I guess they see a girl with short, dark, curly hair strapped into a pink wheelchair.” Those were decisions I thought were smart when Sharon Draper wrote “Out of My Mind.”
