POV of “Out of My Mind”

These are a few things about the point of view of “Out of My Mind” that helped me as a reader. I really felt the struggles that Melody is going through as a disabled girl. Her life is a giant struggle all together. “I didn’t want the blocks. I wanted to tell her they were dangerous.” I also like first person point of view because I knew what Melody was thinking and what she likes and dislikes. “I wanted to hear the song again. But Mom just looked at me like I was nuts.” Combining a great author with first person point of view, BOOM, feels like you’re in the in the characters’ shoes! “I can’t talk. I can’t walk. I can’t feed myself or take myself to the bathroom. Big bummer.” With that in mind, those were how the point of view impacted my understanding of “Out of My Mind” by Sharon Draper.
